Briefing Paper: Blasphemy Provisions in Malaysian Law

Malaysia's Penal Code and other laws contain provisions that have been used to censor and punish expression relating to religion and to entrench a hierarchy of religious beliefs. Article 19 has prepared a briefing paper setting out the international law and standards relating to blasphemy provisions. It also recommends steps for legal reform in Malaysian and further steps that can be taken to combat the root causes of discrimination and intolerance.
